For Patients

IASIOS is an international accreditation system that supports high standards in interventional oncology (IO). Our goal is to promote consistency, transparency, and quality in how minimally invasive cancer procedures are delivered across the globe.

IASIOS Centres commit to structured processes, continuous evaluation, and alignment with internationally developed best practices in IO.

What IASIOS Accreditation Means For Patients

Choosing an IASIOS Accredited Centre means that the facility:

What Are Interventional Oncology (IO) Procedures?

Interventional oncology is a branch of medicine that uses image-guided, minimally invasive procedures to treat cancer. These procedures are often used alongside or as an alternative to surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation.

Common IO procedures include:

  • Tumour ablation (e.g. using heat or cold to destroy tumours)

  • Embolization (blocking blood flow to tumours), including:

  • Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) (combined with chemotherapy to deliver the drugs directly into the tumour)

  • Transarterial radioembolization (TARE) (the particles may contain doses of radiation to selectively kill the tumour cells)

  • Image-guided biopsies and drain placements

  • Palliative procedures for pain or symptom management, such as stenting or cement augmentation
